The idea for Delicate Black Girl was planted in my spirit years ago after a podcast interview where I found myself, yet again, defending the softness of Black women. We are often labeled as strong (as if that’s all we’re allowed to be). That conversation lit something in me. I wanted to shout it from the rooftops: Black women are delicate too. We deserve tenderness, luxury, and peace, just because we exist.
Then came the pandemic. Like many of us, I was forced to slow down, and for the first time, I truly gave myself permission to rest. Therapy, long hugs with my husband, skincare routines, R&B mornings, and weekend coffee rituals on the patio with my dog all became sacred. And it made me realize: I don’t want to survive like this once in a lifetime. I want to live like this all the time. Then came the pandemic. Delicate Black Girl is my love letter to that realization. It’s a cozy corner of the internet for Black women who are soft and strong, healing and hilarious. It’s for the ones who want to swap life stories with their besties, sip something fancy in the sunshine, vibe to feel-good music, and just be. No pressure. No performance. Just peace.
I’m still learning that I don’t have to control everything. I’m choosing joy over stress. Me over the mess. And I’m inviting you to do the same … one cozy, soulful moment at a time.
